Huntingdonshire District Councils CCTV team has focused its Bridge Street camera on the bridge and vehicles caught using it will be reported to police. The bridge can be used by emergency service vehicles and heavy goods vehicles over three tonnes to cross from north to south. A Cambridgeshire police spokesman confirmed that several vehicles had been reported for illegally driving over the bridge. A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said installing bollards would not work. When the Highway Authority installs bollards to restrict the highway it is necessary to supply all vehicles allowed access with either a transponder or a key, depending upon the type of bollard, she said. This can be done where access is only permitted for emergency vehicles, buses or the occasional private vehicle but is not feasible in this situation due to the number of delivery vehicles.
