The St Ives Neighbourhood Policing Team has issued a warning to motorists after a spate of roadside jewellery scams.

The scam involves a man flagging down a motorist while standing beside a car stopped on the side of the road.

The man then asks for money, explaining he has run out of fuel or broken down.

He then offers an item of jewellery in exchange for cash, but this is often cheap metal and of no value.

Police say the man and any passengers in the car "may be of Middle-Eastern origin and speak in broken English".

In at least one of these incidents, the man got back in his car and drove off.

Police are advising members of the public not to fall victim to the scam, and that if it has happened to you to call the 101 non-emergency number.
