Crews from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue used specialist equipment to free a motorist when her car flipped into a ditch in Toseland this morning (Monday).

The firefighters, from St Neots, were called to a two-vehicle collision in Toseland Road after one of the cars clipped the electricity lines and brought them into the road.

The vehicle then careered into a nearby ditch, leaving the driver with a hip injury and suspected broken arm.

Watch Commander Jon-Paul Jones said: "The electricity cables had fallen some distance away from the car but were still live, presenting the crews with a significant challenge."

Rescued safely, the woman was then taken to hospital.

Mr Jones: "The roads were absolutely treacherous and we would like to remind drivers to take care at this time of year on roads that are ungritted."
