THERE were mixed emotions at St Ivo as students broke the record for GCSE A*-C passes but the school saw its passes with English and maths fall.

The St Ives secondary saw students with five or more A*-Cs leap from 83 per cent in 2011 to 93 per cent this year, with 98 per cent of students achieving at least one pass.

Martin McGarry, deputy headteacher, said he was delighted with beating the capped points - a GCSE scoring formula - score beating last years total by 10 points.

He added 66 per cent of students with five or more A*-C grades, including maths and English, which was down on last year, from 69 per cent.

Abi Livingstone, 16, will be going to Long Road Sixth Form after achieving Cs and an A. Jasmine Colton, 15, got two A*s, four As and three Bs; Erin Vanderhoof, 16, was “so relieved” to get two A*s, four As and three Bs and Natalie Caulkett, 16, was really happy with her one A*, five As and four Bs.

Jasmine said that “it’s all paid off, we can finally go and celebrate now!”

Rebecca Harding, 16, received four A*s, five As and one B which enabled her to get into the Perse Sixth Form next year. She told The Hunts Post “I am just so relieved! I can move onto the next stage in my life now!”
