SCALE models of ships the size of a fingernail to railway guns four feet long were among the thousands of intricate items on show at the Burgess Civic Hall in St Ives on Sunday.

The annual show hosted by Brampton Scale Model Club attracted just over 60 exhibitors from around the country, and nearly 400 visitors.

Club secretary Alec Smith said: “We had a very successful day. The show has become the largest and longest established event of this kind in the East of England. We are very pleased to have raised around 250 for Papworth Hospital Charity.

“As always, we had a terrific variety of models on show. There were aircraft, racing cars, ships, tanks, sci-fi characters and animals. I estimate there were between 3,000 and 4,000 items on show.”

Models of the iconic Spitfire fighter plane were on display, alongside historic sailing ships, World War II battle ships, and a table top display of tiny figures depicting the English Civil War.

The club, which is also the local branch of the International Plastic Model Society, meets every Wednesday at Sawtry. For further details, contact Alec on 01480 896949 or take a look at the society’s website, www.bramptonscalemodelclub.fsnet.co.uk
