WHEN Anna Leaver put her Land Rover in for an MOT, she got more paperwork than she bargained for…

Mrs Leaver, 44, of Uggmere Court Road in Ramsey St Mary's, received a letter saying her vehicle had been clocked travelling at 41mph in a 30-mph zone - during the time she thought the car was being tested.

She told The Hunts Post: "I'm fuming. I put our car in for an MOT on Thursday morning (April 19). It had an oil leak but they didn't say they would need to take it out for a test drive."

She picked her car up from RJ Land Rovers in Sawtry on Saturday - and soon afterwards a letter from the community speedwatch team landed on her doormat.

"When I got the letter, I just froze," she said. "I wouldn't speed - that's all I could think. But then, as I looked at the date and the time, I realised I was at my friend's house and I was in my other car - the Land Rover was in the garage.

"I phoned the garage and I asked the garage owner if he took it out for a test drive and he just went quiet. Then he said because it had an oil leak, it would have been taken out for a check. It was caught in Abbots Ripton, six miles away from Sawtry: that's a long way for a test drive.

"He said he would find out who took it out and they would be reprimanded."

She added: "We are never going back to this garage. I can't go back there. They've lost our custom."

Robert James, owner of RJ Land Rovers, agreed that it was "not very good" for the car to be clocked speeding and said: "I have spoken to the owner of the Land Rover and I have apologised.

"I have had a word with the lads in the workshop and as far as I was aware she was happy with the way I had addressed the situation."
