RAMSEY Mayor Lisa Duffy unveiled a plastic bottle bank to demonstrate the impact of plastic on the environment as part of a climate week.
Cllr Duffy, environmentalist Tony Juniper and Sophie Lang, Tesco community champion manager, joined pupils from Ken Stimpson Community School, Werrington, to fill the bank at the entrance of Ramsey Tesco with used plastic bottles.
The cage, installed by climate week sponsors SodaStream, holds more than 750 plastic bottles, equivalent to an average family’s annual consumption.
Cllr Duffy said: “Whereas I don’t believe everything that is said about climate change, I do believe that a little change can have a big impact on the environment. The cage serves as a visual realisation of the wastage of a family of four and, when you see it, you think twice about what you’re about to buy.”
