The application for outline planning permission, which has been submitted by John Shotbolt, could see 10, two-storey dwellings in Newton Road.The site, which was a former industrial works, will be a positive step, Councillor McIlwain said. I think any development in Ramsey is good news, said Cllr McIlwain. We are always looking to grow the town as much as we can, and I think this is positive news. Ramsey has been at a standstill for some time, and I am always trying to encourage the right development for the town. The houses are a good move forward, but we need to make sure that they are affordable for the people of Ramsey. However, some residents arent happy about the proposal. In a consultation with the council, Mr and Mrs James said: We still object to the application for the first two storey dwelling proposed from the entrance to the site, in that it not only would obstruct (deny) us light to our property, but that it would also self-evidently choke access and visibility to the rest of the development. Whilst planning approvals are clearly within your domain, we would hope that this aspect is not overlooked. Mr and Mrs Fraser submitted that: Parking is also an issue and having looked at the plans I strongly believe that residents and their visitors of the proposed development will use the Millfields cul de sac to park and walk through using the proposed cut through. This again has a significant impact on the residents of Millfields and also increases risk of injury and damage. The application was previously rejected by the Ramsey Town Council because of concerns over the number of properties and access to the site, which proposed 12 dwellings and a footpath. The application has since been adjusted, and seeks outline permission for 10 houses, and no footpath, and has been recommended for approval by Huntingdonshire District Council planning officers. The plan will be put forward to the development management committee on Monday for determination.
