A man in his 40s remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in St Ives.
Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit were called to an address in Houghton Road at about 12.40pm yesterday afternoon (January 8) with reports of violence.
According to a police spokesman, a man was found dead at the property with the incident being treated as suspicious.
A woman was also found injured, but was said to be in a stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses reportedly saw police track a man under a wooden bridge near Jones’ Boatyard, in Low Road, after he allegedly jumped into the river.
Both this road and the A1096 Harrison Way at its junction with Hemingford Road were closed around 1pm yesterday, with forensic teams also moving in.
Police remain at the property in Houghton Road today (Monday), with unconfirmed reports suggesting officers were called after someone was stabbed in the incident.
In a Facebook post, police and crime commissioner for Cambridgeshire, Jason Ablewhite, said police had “full control” of the incident and added there was “no risk to the public”.
