A man had his foot sliced off after a family day out ended in horror.

The accident happened in by the river at Chapman Way, Eynesbury early Saturday evening.

The 65-year-old from Stevenage had fallen into the water and caught his foot in the propeller - amputating it in the process. His wife received a laceration to the forehead.

The Magpas Helimedix team arrived at the scene at 6.42pm where the patient was given emergency care.

Dr Anne Booth of Magpas said: "We are extremely grateful to the people of Cambridgeshire and beyond for supporting Magpas - The Emergency Medical Charity, enabling us to provide this man with the care that he would have received in the Emergency Department.

As a result, we were able to prevent him losing more blood and we were able to relieve his pain. We wish both the patients a swift recovery."
