Michael Edwards, appearing at court wearing a grey tracksuit and a white jacket, denied two counts of assault. Edwards stands accused of beating two police constables in an incident which took place on January 3. Edwards, from Bretton, in Peterborough, was also charged with possessing a firearm described in court as pepper spray which he also denied. The incidents are alleged to have taken place in Rowell Way, Sawtry. Magistrates committed the case to Peterborough Crown Court for a pre-trial review, scheduled to take place on March 29, at 10am. Edwards was granted conditional bail and ordered not to contact his former partner or go to Rowell Way, in Sawtry.
