A MAN is in a life-threatening condition after being hit by a vehicle which failed to stop on the A1.

It is thought the 64-year-old was struck by a passing heavy goods vehicle as he filled up his car with a jerry can in a lay-by off the northbound carriageway of the road at Eaton Socon, at 12.35am on Tuesday, June 14.

A passing lorry driver spotted the victim lying in the carriageway and called emergency services.

The man, who had been on his way home to Sawtry when the collision happened, was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries. However his condition subsequently deteriorated and he is now in a life-threatening condition.

Pc Darren Osker, investigating, said: "This is an unlit stretch of road and the driver involved may not have realised the collision took place.

"I would appeal to anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the incident or who has any information about the collision to contact police."

INFORMATION: Anyone with any information should call PC Osker on 0345 456 4564.
