A 34-year-old man has been remanded in custody following an attempted robbery in St Ives.

Martin Gotobed, of Alwyn Close, St Ives, was arrested on New Year’s Eve following an attempted robbery at the News Centre, in Constable Road.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said Gotobed was subsequently charged with attempted robbery and “threatening a person with a bladed article” on January 1 and appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court later that day.

It is understood that nobody was hurt in the incident.

Gotobed has been remanded in custody until Friday when he will appear before a judge at Cambridge Crown Court.
