A FATHER-of-four from Stukeley Meadows is calling for improved road safety measures after a car smashed into his family home. The vehicle crashed into Paul Pescuds home in Levers Water, off Lake Way, at 7.30pm on Wednesday into the bay window where his wife Wendy was due to be working on the family computer. The impact caused damage to the front wall of the house, which will need to be replaced, after the vehicle mounted the kerb and crashed through a hedge. Despite the damage, support services manager Mr Pescud, 36, said he was grateful the incident had not been more serious given that his four children, all under the age of 10, had been in the house at the time. It could have been much worse, he told The Hunts Post. My wife said she was going to use the computer at that time to do some work, but she changed her mind. She went upstairs, then five minutes later there was a horrendous noise, a screech and a crash. Im glad that no one was injured, and that includes the driver. This is the second time in recent weeks that theres been an accident down the road. Its got a lot busier recently. Since the new flats have been built nearby theres been an influx of traffic, and lots of people using the street for parking. People park there and walk to the train station or the hospital. It makes it a bit of a slalom in and out. Earlier this week, Mr Pescud wrote to Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly and HDC executive leader Jason Ablewhite to request they look into the situation. I would like to see more control measures in terms of speed and parking. That could be speed bumps, double yellow lines. I know a lot of my neighbours feel the same way. The driver, a man in his 20s, was left with minor injuries to his hand, which were checked over by paramedics at the scene. Two fire crews and a rescue vehicle from Huntingdon were also called to the incident, and made the scene safe within the hour. It is thought the driver was trying to avoid an oncoming car before the collision. A police spokesman said: We were called to reports of a car crashing into a house in Levers Water, Huntingdon, shortly before 8pm last night. An ambulance and the fire service attended and the vehicle was recovered at about 9.30pm.
