Firefighters from Huntingdon were called to New Road, in St Ives, after the ducklings became separated from their mother and fell down the storm drains.

Using crowbars and other tools firefighters from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service open the drain covers.

Following assistance from the fire crew the lucky ducklings were fished out by an RSPCA officer with a net.

Gareth Boyd, watch commander, said: "They were all ok, just a little mucky and they were making quite a lot of noise."

The fire service has reminded people that it is happy to assist with animal rescues, such as this, but it has urged residents to always call the RSPCA first who will request firefighters attend if necessary.
