Firefighters were called to tackle a lorry fire on the A14 last night (Monday).

A crew from Kimbolton, two crews from Huntingdon and a water carrier from Ramsey were called to a stretch of the road near Catworth shortly after 7.30pm.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters arrived to find a lorry on fire on the westbound carriageway near Catworth. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reels and a jet.

The crews returned to their stations by 10.45pm."

An investigation into the incident determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.

The previous day (Sunday) a fire crew from Huntingdon was called to an outbuilding blaze in Common Lane, Hemingford Abbots.

Firefighters arrived at about 12.15pm to find a bin fire had spread to a fence and nearby outbuilding.

Crews cut away at the roof of the outbuilding and dampened down the area before returning to their station by 1.40pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.
