A lorry fire caused severe delays on the A1 southbound between Alconbury and Brampton Hut at 12.17pm today (Friday).

One lane was closed after a refrigerated lorry trailer caught fire and cargo had fallen onto the road.

At least 25 firefighters from St Neots, Whittesley, Yaxley, Stanground and Chatteris attended the vehicle fire which was already well alight on arrival.

All lanes were reopened by 3.54pm, although some fire crews are still present.
