LONGSANDS students showed their mettle this year by smashing last years GCSE results.

The number of students achieving 5A* - C, including English and Maths, increased from 62 per cent to 63 percent with the proportion of students achieving 5A* - C in all subjects rising from 75.5 per cent in 2011 to an impressive 85 per cent.

Those pupils attaining 5A* - G rose from 96 per cent last year to 99 percent with 100 per cent of students receiving 1A*-G in all students.

Executive principal, Rob Whatmough, praised the exceptional set of results: “Compared with this point last year the figure for 5A*- C is eight per cent higher and for 5 A*- G over three per cent higher.

“The measure that includes English and Mathematics is already within one per cent of last year’s 64 per cent.

“ This is before any queries are dealt with. It is encouraging as well to have another year where every student obtained at least one GCSE pass.

“We are especially pleased by the number of students who appear to have benefited from mentoring throughout the year.

“The improvements shown are not only about higher grades but also the range and depth of qualifications.”
