A Ramsey charity has launched a public appeal after they had more than £700 worth of electrical goods are stolen.

Little Miracles in Ramsey supports disabled children in the area and its base in High Street was broken into on Monday evening.

Amy Clarke, chairman of Little Miracles, said: “[On Monday] morning we went to set up, my autistic son and a volunteer went through to the teenagers’ cottage to find the door broken and a complete mess.

“They tried to force open the window but couldn’t do it so they forced entry through the door. They have taken electrical goods such as TV, Xbox 1, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, a Wii, all of our games and controllers. I have still got to go through all of the rooms to see if anything had been taken.

“The window and door all need to be fixed and I really feel for the children. My son was so angry and upset that anyone would do this. It’s meant to be a place where children can come and feel safe.”

Amy has now launched a Just Giving page to try and raise money to replace the stolen goods, which are used by the children everyday.

Members of the Ramsey community have pitched in to offer donations after Amy shared on Facebook her disgust about what had happened, with her post having more than 400 shares.

The mayor of Ramsey, Councillor Doug McIlwain also commented on what happened. He said: “I think this is the lowest of the low - whoever thinks stealing from disabled children is correct needs a serious look at themselves.

“I spent an evening with volunteers yesterday (Monday) and it was so humbling to hear what people do for each other then you get scum like this who have no regard for others I hope there parents are proud of what they have done and the full force of the law is applied to them.

“I know the people of Ramsey will pull together and help replace what was stolen but that’s not the point. Children that do not understand what’s happening are suffering because of some low lives.”

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “We were called at around 9.45am to reports of a burglary at a building used by the Little Miracles, in High Street, Ramsey.

“Electronics, including a TV and games systems, were reported stolen.
