LAURA Baxter has thanked the people of Huntingdonshire for their support.

Twenty-seven-year-old Laura, from St Ives, is battling a rare form of cancer and needed to raise £25,000 to pay for a potentially life-saving operation in Belgium.

The Hunts Post launched a fundraising campaign two weeks ago to help her - and has already smashed the target thanks to the unbelievable generosity of people across the district and the rest of the country.

Laura emailed The Hunts Post early this morning (Wednesday), from her bed in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, where she is being treated for an infection.

She said: "I think it's amazing that there are so many nice, good-hearted people that genuinely care for another person's life and in such a selfless way.

"I should be saying LOADS more but am at a loss for words. I just want to say thank you to everyone, and I will keep you all updated after op."

INFORMATION: Surplus funds raised for the Laura Baxter Fund will be donated to the Pseudomyxoma Survivors charity, to fund vital research into the disease.
