Two boxes containing cats and kittens have been found dumped in Huntingdonshire – one in a multi-storey car park.

Two kittens, aged only six to seven weeks old, were found by a man on his way to work abandoned in a cardboard box in the multi-storey car park opposite Sainsbury’s in Huntingdon.

The animals were taken to Cromwell Vets where they underwent health checks before being passed to the Cambs Mid-East RSPCA.

Lyndsay Burrell, Cromwell Vets marketing coordinator, said: “Some people just ignore that kind of thing but this man, who was on his way to work, actually made the detour to bring them to us.”

She added: “It’s annoying when people abandon animals when there are perfectly good organisations who will accept them.”

The kittens, found on July 17, where nicknamed Jill and Jen after two of the staff and taken to the RSPCA.

The animal charity will rehome the pair but said it may take a little longer than usual as people generally choose other colours over black cats.

A second box, which had been sealed shut, was found on July 31 by the roadside of the A1 at Diddington.

A spokesman Anna Partin for St Neots Cats Protection said they believed the box contained two cats which had forced their way out and had been spotted in the village.

She added: “This will be the sixth case of cats being abandoned that we are aware of this year.

“We understand that most animal shelters are currently full, with long waiting lists, but it is really distressing that this is happening.”
