A SAWTRY man who raped two young girls in the early 1990s after giving them drink and drugs has been jailed for 12 years.

Julian Keightley denied attacking the girls, aged 12 and 17, between 1991 and 1993, but was convicted following a trial at Huntingdon Crown Court.

The 44-year-old of Greenways, Sawtry, had plied the girls with alcohol and cannabis before attacking them in separate incidents, the court heard.

He subjected a 12-year-old girl to a serious sexual assault in a tent in 1991, and raped the other victim in a camper van in 1993.

He was jailed for 12 years at Luton Crown Court on Friday (July 29). He was also made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and put on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Police launched an investigation last year after both victims came forward.

Detective constable Julia Boon, who investigated, said: “This was a complex case because the offences happened such a long time ago. The victims have shown great bravery to give evidence at trial and bring Keightley to justice.

“This case should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can commit this type of crime and get away with it.”
