Spending a lot of her days sitting in an office chair motivated Huntingdon accountant Jade Siggee to set about looking for a way to challenge herself.

That challenge came in the form of a 13-mile run around the streets of Peterborough, as, on October 14, Jade will join the thousands of competitors taking part in the Great Eastern Run.

The run will have special significance for her as she will be raising funds for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The hospice provides palliative care and support for people who are living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.

Jade, 24, who lives in Upwood, said: “My father-in-law was at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice about a year ago and they were amazing. It was a no-brainer to support them and the half-marathon was a good personal challenge. “I spent quite a bit of time visiting my father-in-law in Thorpe Hall and it’s an amazing place.”

Jade has been training for the past few months and building up her distance gradually.

“I sit down all day at work so I needed to do something,” she said. “I joined a local running club and met a lady from a few streets away who is also doing the run so we have been training together which has worked out well.

“I have never done a race before, just a bit of road running by myself. My family are very proud and giving me lots of support but I haven’t managed to persuade any of them to run. I have so far done a few 10 mile runs so I’m not too far away from the 13 miles.

“I am looking forward to it. I like a challenge and doing it for Thorpe Hall was an incentive. It’s hard work but it’s all worth it. I think the charity is incredible.”

So far, Jade has raised more than £600 for the hospice and has an overall target of £750.
