They will leave Godmanchester on May 7 and hope to arrive at Tossa de Mar in time for the Spanish Grand Prix on May 13.The To Tossa in a Tuk Tuk challenge is the latest adventure by Phillip, a partner at Gatehouse Estates, and Paul, landlord of the Exhibition pub, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They are part of a group based around the Exhibition in Godmanchester which supports Macmillan and has raised more than £130,000 for the charity so far. Their previous trips have included treks to the Everest base camp in Kathmandu and 100km through the Sahara. Phillip said: It when we were sitting on a rooftop in Kathmandu after the Everest base camp trek that we saw tuk tuks racing up and down that gave us the idea. They bought the £5,000+VAT 200cc Piaggio Ape City machine from the Tuk Shop in Hampshire - and it has been given a special makeover by Red Bull Racing at Milton Keynes where it sat alongside Daniel Ricciardos RB12 F1 racing car. The tuk tuk, which is capable of speeds of up to 40mph, will set off from Godmanchester, heading for Newhaven, where it will cross the channel before travelling south through France to the Pyrenees where it will enter Spain en route for Tossa. Phillip said they would be taking the flattest route through the Pyrenees: It struggles up Offord Hill, so the Pyrenees might be a bit optimistic. Tuk tuks, named after the sound of their engine, are often used as taxis in the Far East and Phillip and Paul have been getting the three-wheeler run in with local trips and to grips with its handling. They will be backed up by Pauls nephews Charlie and Billy Risley. Once the trip is over the unique Red Bull tuk tuk will be sold and the profits added to the Macmillan pot.
