The raid, which is understood to have taken place at a branch of Nationwide, in High Street, was raided in early hours of this morning (Monday). According to witnesses, a cash machine was ripped from the wall using a JCB before those involved fled the scene. It is understood a burned out car was discovered not far from the scene. The raid caused extensive damage to the Nationwide branch. A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: We were called at 2am this morning (Monday 25 June) with reports of people stealing the ATM from Nationwide in Ramsey High Street. It was reported there were six or seven people and two vehicles, including a Land Rover. A digger was also left in the middle of the road. The helicopter was deployed to assist with locating the vehicles and offenders. A vehicle on fire with an ATM attached has been located in Chapel Road in Ramsey Heights. We believe this is linked to the ram raid earlier this morning.
