Investigations into the death of a St Ives couple who were fatally injured in a car crash are continuing, an inquest heard.
Giovanni Coppolaro, 85, and his wife Maria, 83, were travelling to a family funeral when their car, driven by their son Gennaro, was involved in a collision with another car on the A73 in North Lanarkshire on July 27 last year.
At Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon, last Thursday, senior coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough David Heming provided an update on the proceedings.
He said: “The incident surrounding the tragic death of Mr and Mrs Coppolaro was in Scotland. An investigation by the Crown Office and the Procurator Fiscal Service in Scotland is currently taking place.
“We have been informed that the Procurator Fiscal Service has received a report regarding the causes surrounding the death of Mr and Mrs Copplaro.”
The coroner’s office has been informed that further investigations are being undertaken “but clearly they are not completed”.
A pre-inquest review has been scheduled to take place on May 19 where further information will be heard.
