The incident happened at about 2.30am on Friday (January 6) in High Street when four men, wearing dark clothes and balaclavas, used a teleporter to break through the wall of the bank in attempt to remove the cash machine. The men left the ATM, teleporter and a Range Rover at the scene and made off empty handed in a 4x4 vehicle in the direction of St Neots. Detective Inspector Dan Pawson said: We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem could prove valuable to the investigation. Eyewitness Sara Orton said: It was more comical than anything when they couldnt get the ATM out and the facade fell they couldnt drive the fork lift correctly and ran into their truck then started yelling at each other. It sounded like they were doing trash collection outside as it was really loud and shook the building. Then I saw there were guys yelling in the street. At first I thought maybe they were stealing cars. I was gobsmacked about what happened as Ive never seen someone try to rip an ATM off a building, it was quite an operation. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
