An investigation has been launched after Kai Nazir, who stabbed a man to death at a pub in has appeared to in videos on Instagram taken from inside the prison.

The videos show Nazir laughing in a video showing him and other inmates in a cell.

It is thought the two pictures and one video that were posted on Nazir's account were put up on Friday afternoon.

Nazir, from St Neots, is being held at HMP Peterborough, where he is serving a life sentence.

The 20-year-old, of The Crescent, was sentenced just two weeks ago for the murder of 30-year-old Chris West at the Monkfield arms pub.

He was also convicted of the attempted murder of Daniel Berryman and having a bladed article.

The Instagram account has now been removed from the social media site and both Cambridgeshire police and HMP Peterborough are investigating.

A spokesman for police said: “I can confirm that as of September 17 we are aware of reports that a prisoner at HMP Peterborough has access to a mobile phone and social media from within the prison. We are currently looking into the circumstances.”

An HMP Peterborough spokesman said: “Mobile phones are a challenge across the whole prison estate. Our staff at HMP Peterborough work very hard to prevent these items getting into the prison.

“We have taken appropriate action in the prison and reported this incident to the police.”
