There is cause for celebration at Warboys Community Primary School, after it received its first ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.

The regulatory body – which, in its past two reports, rated the school as requiring improvement – noted progress in four-out-of-five key areas: effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, and outcomes for pupils.

The category of early years provision has remained as ‘good’ since the last full inspection in 2015.

The report said: “Pupils’ outcome in reading, writing and mathematics compare favourably with national levels.”

Head teacher, Angela Boxall, said she was “absolutely delighted” with the results, adding: “I’m just so proud of everybody… the relentlessness and the not giving up is the crucial thing that comes across here. It’s been a long time coming.

“The attainment and the progress the children now make and the changes of attitudes to their learning have been immense.”

Inspectors cited Mrs Boxall as a reason for the school’s advancements, noting in their report: “The determined and committed leadership of the head teacher has ensured a relentless drive for improvement. This has helped to secure gains in teaching and a shared commitment from staff to improve the school further.”

‘Good’ is the second-highest rating a school can achieve, behind ‘outstanding’.

Mrs Boxall is still determined to reach the top grade. She said: “Our next goal is to give the higher flyers more of a choice and focus, and deepening their learning through challenging activities. Our key focus recently has been maths and literacy, so now we can extend that knowledge across all of the curriculum.”

The inspection took place back in November, though the results were only published last week. The school is attended by 268 pupils, aged between four and 11-years-old.

Mrs Boxall praised the staff in the school’s newsletter, saying: “This accolade could not have been achieved without the sheer determination and unshakeable belief of dedicated staff as they strive to give the very best opportunities to our children.”
