The death of a man from St Neots was caused by a “gunshot wound to the chest”, an inquest heard.

Richard Davies, 41, of Duck Lane died after from the injuries he sustained after being shot by a police marksman.

The inquest into his death was opened today (November 2) at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon.

A report, read out by coroner's officer for Cambridgeshire Katie Roberts, said: “On October 21 armed police were called to an incident during that incident a shot was fired - a single shot to the chest.”

First aid was given to Mr Davies but he was pronounced dead at 8.42pm

A post mortem carried out at Peterborough City Hospital revealed that Mr Davies died from “a gunshot wound to the chest”, said Ms Roberts.

Anna Spriggs, assistant coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough gave her condolences to Mr Davies' family who were present at the inquest, including his parents Gill and Christopher Davies.

The proceedings have been adjourned until March 21, 2016.
