EIGHTY-four golfers pulled on pink and got into the swing of things to remember a loved friend and family member.

The fourth Lewis West Golf Day at Pidley Golf Club raised more than 5,000 for the teenager’s memorial fund, and boosting a total for the Firefighters Charity that is expected to reach 12,000 by the end of the year.

Lewis, 17, died in July 2007 after his car left the road and collided with a derelict building near Ramsey.

Fittingly, the competition on Friday, July 22, was won by the fourball team led by Lewis’s father, Tim West.

Around 2,400 was raised through an auction which included a signed cap from Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel and a football shirt from England captain John Terry.

Mr West, 43, of Hopbine Court, Ramsey, said: “I want to thank everyone who came to play and who donated. We had so much interest in the event that I could have had 100 golfers playing this year.

“It goes to show how much Lewis is loved. He is a massive loss to Ramsey and the area – he was a massive character and events like these show that everyone still misses him.”

The first golf day, just six weeks after Lewis’s death, raised 14,500, and by the end of 2011 the Lewis West Memorial Fund will have raised more than 40,000.
