Hundreds of pounds worth of funding raised through the Hunts 10k Charity Run has helped a girls’ football team to flourish.

In 2015, Godmanchester Rovers Youth approached Hunts 10k organisers seeking £500 in sponsorship for their team shirts.

To show their commitment the team not only entered some runners into the 3k run but also organises a ‘beat the goalie’ challenge.

The Hunts10k Charitable Trust were so impressed that they extended the offer to £1500 spread over three years to support and develop the girls’ game.

“The three year deal which started in 2015 has been fantastic for us and we are extremely grateful for the sponsorship” says Jonathan Forster, the club chairman. “It allows us to dedicate our attention to the team and the players and helps with kit and equipment for the team.

“The team will continue into next season and beyond and we’re sure will go from strength to strength. As growing the girls side of our club is a development priority for us we intend to start a second girls’ team next season.”

This year’s Hunts 10K charities have been agreed but the trustees will invite new applicants in early 2017.
