A Woodwalton woman is running the London Marathon to raise money for Zane Smith.
Jo Vasey, 36, of Beville, will take on the 26.2-mile course on April 13 to help send five-year-old Zane to Chicago for another specialist brain scan to help him cope with a rare condition.
Jo – pictured with Zane – said: “I know Zane as his dad plays football with my boyfriend. Zane inspired me to run this marathon, and is what makes me get out of bed on a cold, horrible, miserable rainy morning to put in the legwork for my training.”
Zane, of Essex Road, Huntingdon, suffers from CCMS, a genetic mutation of blood vessels in the brain which form lesions, called ‘cavernomas’ that can haemorrhage at any time and cause a seizure, stroke or death.
To help him live with his condition, Zane must visit Dr Issam Awad at the University of Chicago once a year for a unique MRI scan which shows how his brain is affected.
