Nine sheets of the letter "M" was the subject for a members' evening at a recent meeting of the society when there was a wide variety of material shown.

Starting with Mulready envelopes and letter sheets from the 1840s, the group then went on to May Day in the form of mail recovered from crashes. Maximum cards from France were followed by Spanish machine labels. The 1980 Moscow Olympics were featured on stamps and miniature sheets along with Moscow post marks. Italian pre-stamp mail from Milano was followed by RAF museum covers, which were signed by the pilots. Also shown were mailbag seals and manuscript postmarks from Commonwealth countries, along with countries whose name begins with "M" and the evening finished with a selection of postal stationery and newspaper wrappers of the 1870 to 1920 period from Mexico.

At the Convention of the East Midlands and East Anglian Philatelic Federation on April 8 at Bury St Edmunds, one of our members, Alan Becker, was awarded first place in the Postal History section of the competitions with "Rome to Ceprano" mail.

This exhibit was also awarded the Best in Show as well.
