Remembrance Sunday services were held across Huntingdonshire

Crowds across Huntingdonshire paused to mark a poignant moment and to salute the war dead on Remembrance Sunday.

In Huntingdon, hundreds of people took part in a parade through the town centre to Market Square where a service took place followed by a two-minute and the laying of wreaths at the thinking soldier.

Royal British Legion Huntingdon branch secretary Judith Armstrong said: “The crowds gathered along the street and was clapping and cheering. It is always lovely day in the town to see the wreath laying and people marching and everyone wearing poppies.”

The parade then continued to Newton’s Court to salute the Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Sir Keith Pearson.

It was a similar story in St Ives, RBL branch secretary Mike Robinson said that the town witnessed the biggest crowds they have ever had for the special service and parade. “It was very well attended, there were a lot of people there including the youth groups from toddlers right up to the senior sections.”

The parade and service were attended by members of St the town’s council including Mayor of St Ives Councillor Ian Jackson as well as MP for Huntingdon Jonathan Djangoly.

In St Neots, mayor of the town Councillor James Corley attended the Sunday service and parade that marched through the streets for the war memorial at St Neots Parish Church, in Church Street.

Dignitaries from the council and veteran groups laid wreaths followed by a service at the church.

There was also a Polish Remembrance service held at the war graves in St Neots Cemetery that was attended by visiting Polish dignitaries, air cadets and standard bearers.

The Cambridgeshire Caledonian Pipe Band led a march that took place in Ramsey, leaving from Ramsey Abbey Gateway and heading to the war memorial near St Thomas a Becket Church for a short service.

Representatives of Godmanchester Town Council and churches and uniformed groups within the town paraded from the town hall to the town’s memorial where a short service.
