The fraud team at Huntingdonshire District Council has won a national award for its innovative ‘data warehouse’.
At the Fighting Fraud Awards, the team beat the London Borough of Southwark Anti-Fraud Services and East Sussex County Council and National Trading Standards Board to the Innovation title.
HDC’s team won the award for its data warehouse, which holds data from the council’s departments to help identify fraud and error. The approach has been rolled out across Cambridgeshire, with other councils looking to create similar systems.
The team, working with other councils and housing providers, is looking to make savings of £2million over two years.
Councillor Jason Ablewhite, HDC executive leader, said: “The team has worked very hard on this scheme with the assistance of officers across the council. This award is recognition from central government that this council is at the forefront of the fight against fraud, not just in the detection of this type of crime, but also in its deterrence and prevention.”
