A teenager who was once homeless has been given a chance to take part in his favourite sport in an international tournament.

Jordan Inglis, 18, from Huntingdon made his England debut earlier this month, representing his country at the International Street Football Festival in Manchester.

The Festival, which saw five teams from across the globe line up in the city centre, is an international football tournament with a difference - every player has experienced homelessness.

Jordan said: “My mates think it’s wicked that I’m playing for England and I hope I can go far with this big opportunity.

“My dream job is to be a football coach and this gives me opportunity to progress on to coaching. It’s definitely a positive experience. Everyone can have different ways of experiencing things but I would say to anyone that you can go far with it. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to sign up.”

Before the festival Jordan was invited to take part in a six week training programme at Norwich City FC to be chosen for the England team.

“I didn’t expect to be picked, I was playing football at the time when I got the call to say I had been picked to represent my country - it was so overwhelming,” added Jordan.

The festival was hosted by the Homeless FA, which is England’s national homeless football initiative using football to transform the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

Now living in his own flat in Huntingdon Jordan became homeless three years ago after experiencing family problems at home.

“I then moved into a hostel which is where I started playing football and found out about the Homeless FA. I have now been living in my own place for three months.”

The tournament followed September’s Homeless World Cup in Amsterdam and the men and women’s champions Mexico joined hosts and quarter-finalists Holland on the 4-a-side street soccer pitch in Manchester.

Gareth Parker, had of the Homeless FA, said: “This year’s Team England squad is an incredibly inspiring group of people who have overcome, and in some cases are still overcoming, huge challenges in their lives.”
