A HUNTINGDON-based solicitor has had her certificate to practice suspended and her company closed by the industry regulator.

Dina Rachelle Chern is being investigated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

As well as suspending her certificate, the SRA has intervened in four firms run by Mrs Chern, closing down Hunnybun & Sons, which had its office in the High Street, Huntingdon, Pinacle Law Ltd, Eagle Legal Ltd and Moeran Oughtred & Co.

Mrs Chern, 57, lives in London and became a solicitor in May 2003. She listed her specialist areas as general and commercial litigation, neighbour disputes and personal injury claims.

A spokesman for the SRA said: “We have intervened and closed down a number of firms connected with Mrs Chern due to numerous breaches of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and conduct rules. The other reason is we have the power to intervene simply in the interests of the clients.”

The spokesman said Mrs Chern had indicated her intention to challenge the authority’s action. Her appeal will be heard in an administrative court in London.

If the Mrs Chern’s appeal proves unsuccessful, she could face a Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal and be liable to pay costs – which could amount to anything between 100,000 and 250,000.

The SRA has appointed Nottinghamshire-based firm Shacklocks to take over the four closed firms’ cases and a solicitor from the company will return all files and monies to Mrs Chern’s clients.

The Hunts Post was unable to contact Mrs Chern for comment.
