A HUNTINGDON-based solicitor was due to appear before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal yesterday.

Dina Rachelle Chern has been under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) since June last year when she had her certificate to practise suspended and her company closed by the industry regulator.

The tribunal adjudicates on alleged breaches of rules or the code of professional conduct which are designed to protect the public and maintain the reputation of the solicitors’ profession.

As well as suspending her certificate, the SRA intervened in four firms run by Mrs Chern, closing down Hunnybun & Sons, which had its office in High Street, Huntingdon, Pinacle Law Ltd, Eagle Legal Ltd and Moeran Oughtred & Co.

Mrs Chern, 57, lives in London and became a solicitor in May 2003.

A spokesman for the SRA said Mrs Chern was investigated due to “numerous breaches of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and conduct rules”.

If Mrs Chern is found guilty, she could be liable to pay costs up to £250,000.

The SRA appointed Nottinghamshire-based firm Shacklocks to take over the four closed firms’ cases.
