Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon could benefit from 15 new, state-of-the art science laboratories if planning permission and funding for the project is granted.
A planning application has been submitted for a project which involves demolition of the current single-storey science classroom. This would be replaced by a three-storey building with biology labs on one floor, chemistry labs on another and physics labs on another - all with the latest equipment.
Ian Oliver, site manager for the school, told The Hunts Post: “The application has been put in to get funding from the Education Funding Agency which has funds for academy schools. We should hear a decision by May. However, it could be put on hold for the election and we might have a new government which could end the funding.
“The current laboratories date from the 1970s. They are very dated and would not meet current legislation if they were being built now.”
