Huntingdon’s William is a show winner at Crufts

A Huntingdonshire charity director’s six-year-old Hamiltonstovare proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at Crufts.

William, who was among 28,000 canine competitors at Crufts, claimed the prestigious best of breed award at Birmingham’s NEC.

Owner Michelle Longman, 37, of Abbots Ripton, showed nerves of steel along with William to finish ahead of 15 other entries to scoop the coveted prize before going on to compete for best in group.

Miss Longman said: “I’ve been competing since 1999 with foxhounds and beagles as well but this is William’s fourth Crufts and he’s won best of breed before so it’s very nice to be back on top.

“William is just a big show off, even at home he loves to perform but he’s such a lovely dog and I love having him around.

“It is always a very long day but it’s Crufts, the most prestigious of the all the dog shows so you kind of expect that.”
