Plans for retirement homes on the site of a Huntingdon town centre pub are due to go on display next week.

As reported last month in The Hunts Post, the Territorial Inn on Cromwell Walk, just off the ring road, could be demolished to make way for 25 apartments.

Developer McCarthy & Stone wants to know what people think about its proposals, which it says include an “attractive new building”, which would “positively contribute to the town’s existing architecture”.

The site, it says, is ideal for older people due to how close it is to the town centre shops.

Lorena Brown, regional managing director at McCarthy & Stone, said: “We want to hear from the local community and our future home-owners before we submit a planning application.

“We will display our plans at the exhibition and our project team will be there to answer questions and to take feedback on what we’ve done so far.

“The comments we receive will help us tailor our proposal into something people will want to see, enjoy and call home.”

The pub is owned by Charles Wells, a company which has a portfolio of more than 200 pubs nationwide, and it has been working with McCarthy & Stone on the plans.

The developer’s representatives have already met with people living nearby to discuss what is proposed.

It will be holding a public exhibition on Wednesday (April 2) at Huntingdonshire Community Church, 83a High Street, Huntingdon from 3-7pm.
