Steve Woodham, owner of Steves Taxis and Steves Car Sales, wants to reopen Level 2, in All Saints Passage, as The S One Club. He has applied to Huntingdonshire District Council, which owns the building, for a club premises certificate. The plans include daytime community activities, licensing to show films from 8am-8pm Monday to Sunday, live and recorded music, dancing and alcohol sales from 8am-4am Thursday to Saturday and 8am-midnight Sunday to Wednesday. Mr Woodham said the venue, which has a chequered history, would open as a nightclub two days a week and would open at other times for dance and exercise, film showings and other activities for over-50s. He added the move would create about 20 jobs in the town. Huntingdon definitely needs something to boost the night-time economy, especially with all the pubs closing, Mr Woodham told The Hunts Post. We are fully aware of the problems in the past and we are working with the police, the council, and the fire service to avoid that happening again. We also want to give something back to the town by offering the space for dance classes or for over-50s activities like bingo as there isnt much for them to do. It means that it brings people into the town centre, which can only be positive for businesses. Katy Sismore, Business Improvement District (BID) Huntingdon manager, said: BID welcomes any new business in the town. It is great to see a local businessman, who understands and has a vested interest in seeing the town do well, looking at opening the club. We have always said the night-time economy needed more restaurants and entertainment. The Kurdish restaurant in Market Hill, Wetherspoon moving in and S One is a step in the right direction. If it is managed well, the club could be fantastic. Tony Ogle, landlord of the Victoria Inn, said: It is absolutely fantastic news and is one of the best things to happen to the towns night-time economy. Level 2 was forced to close by Peterborough magistrates in April 2012 after six months of violence. Cambridgeshire police said the final straw was a mass brawl on April 22, 2012, involving about 30 people. Is the reopening of the nightclub good news for Huntingdon?
