HUNTINGDON has been named as the overall winner of the Anglia in Bloom contest.

HUNTINGDON has been named as the overall winner of the Anglia in Bloom contest.

The town’s entry was awarded the gold standard, the prize for best large town and the top Anglia in Bloom trophy after being judged to be the best overall entry from the six competing counties.

The result was announced today (Wednesday) at a ceremony in Sudbury, attended by representatives from Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Bob Ollier, chairman of Anglia in Bloom said: “Huntingdon should be congratulated on their achievement of consistent high marks across the key criteria in all sections of the competition, achieving the prestigious Gold Standard, Best Large Town and Best Overall entry and winner of the Anglia in Bloom trophy.

“Congratulations to the Huntingdon in Bloom team.”

George Dawson, chair of the judges, said: “The campaign is not only about flowers – other things are taken into account by the judges such as environmental quality, community involvement, biodiversity and the involvement of young people, to name but a few.

“Community involvement seems to be the key to success: when everyone is involved the rewards are tremendous.”

Huntingdon’s entry, along with the five other Anglia in Bloom category winners, will now go forward to be judged at the national Britain in Bloom finals in Birmingham on September 29.
