Huntingdon man jailed for 30 weeks for theft

A MAN has been jailed for 30 weeks for carrying out a number of thefts at businesses in Huntingdon.

Richard Homer, 23, of Alder Drive, Huntingdon, pleaded guilty to both offences at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 30.

The court heard the most recent offence happened at Wensleydale Dental Surgery, in George Street, Huntingdon, on Wednesday, September 29.

Homer smashed a passenger side window of a Renault Clio and stole some CDs and a purse containing bank cards and cash.

He also admitted theft at Clinton Cards, in High Street, on September 17, where he stole items from a staff room. Two female employees had purses and other items stolen from their handbags, including mobile phones, cash and bank cards. A male member of staff had his store keys stolen and locks had to be changed.

Forensic evidence linked Homer to the Clinton Cards theft and officers went to arrest him on the morning of Wednesday, September 29. He was arriving home on his bike after carrying out the second offence and tried to flee.

However, the officers pursued him in their patrol car and then by foot and he was arrested.

DC Sarah Fines, who investigated, said: “Homer denied these offences when first questioned but admitted them when presented with the evidence. I hope this spell in prison will make him think again before committing such crimes in future.”
