A MAN who tried to kill a woman as she slept has been jailed for 15 years.

Peter Semourson, 41, was jailed at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday (September 29) for the terrifying attack on a young woman in Huntingdon last year.

Semourson, of Silver Birch Close, broke into the 25-year-old’s home at 5am in the morning of July 27, 2009, before trying to suffocate her with a pillow. He then slashed her with a knife when she fought off the attack.

Detective Inspector Martin Brunning, who led the investigation, said: “This was a wicked attack on a young mother in her own home, while her seven year old boy was just two feet away. She received horrific injuries and was lucky to survive. However, the effects on both victims will be lasting and significant.

“We’re delighted with the sentence as it is a true reflection of the seriousness of this crime. We continue to work with the victim and her son.”
