Jack Mulcahy, 24, of Capulet Court, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court via video link from HMP Peterborough today (Thursday). With short blond hair and wearing a black top, he spoke only to confirm his identity during the preliminary hearing. He is accused of the murder of Mr Jeffery, of Orchard Road, Melbourn, who was injured during an incident in Cambridge city centre. He was outside the Cambridge City Hotel, on Downing Street near the junction with Corn Exchange Street, at about 3.40am on Saturday, November 1, when he was involved in an altercation in the street and was hit by a car. Mr Jeffery, an electrician, was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in the city with serious injuries and remained there until his death on Saturday (November 8). A post mortem examination revealed that he died from head injuries. He will next appear for a plea and case management hearing at the same court on January 26 next year, followed by a provisional trial date beginning on April 27, which is expected to last about seven days, also at Cambridge Crown Court. Mr Mulcahy was remanded in custody until his next appearance. INFORMATION: Contact Cambridgeshire Polices major crime unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
