Mother of twins Kelly Fryer will be joining 79 other women for an epic 400km ride across the country in aid of Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jos Trust, a cervical cancer charity. Entitled the Women V Cancer Challenge the epic journey will see Luminus HR manager Kelly journey from the slopes of Mount Kenya to the shores of Lake Victoria in just six days from October 29. Ahead of the trip, Kelly is also helping to organise a 5km walk around Hinchingbrooke Park in aid of Jos Trust on Saturday, June 11. She felt moved to act after a friend went through tests for cervical and ovarian cancer before being given the all-clear. Kelly, who lives in Ramsey St Marys said: My husband and I got married a couple of years ago. I hit 30 last year and I have two young boys, I just needed to do something else. Organised by event company Action for Charity, Octobers ride is one of five due to take place over the course of six months. Among the hundreds of women who have signed up to take part are Super Slim Me TV presenter Dawn Porter and How Clean is Your House? star Aggie Mackenzie. The cyclists have been warned to expect not only gruelling daily treks of up to 98km, but few luxuries at the end of the day. Kelly said: We will be staying in two-star accommodation. We have been told there will be a shower and a bed. One of my sons is also getting me together a booklet of all the poisonous and dangerous animals I will encounter. The heat is also not something you can prepare for. Each cyclist has been asked to raise £2,800 for the three charities, though Kelly is aiming higher with a £4,000 fundraising target. She also wants to raise £600 separately for Jos Trust through the walk. She said meeting her fellow cyclists has been a highlight so far. Kelly said: I did not know anybody else initially. But there are groups on Facebook and we have got each others e-mail addresses. We have been meeting up for training and for a coffee. Meeting like-minded people that want to do the same thing is fantastic.
