Huntingdon Town Council has agreed the largest increase in its precept of the Huntingdonshire towns – a 6.07 per cent hike.
The increased charge amounts to an extra £7.11 a year for Band D households, up from £117.27 to £124.39.
Town clerk, Karen Cameron, said money was required for several building maintenance projects.
She added: “With the council’s reserves much reduced since 2009, following refurbishment of the town hall, the council’s challenge was to fund these and maintain a growing portfolio of services, as well as cope with the loss of an £84,000 grant paid last year by HDC to compensate for changes in the tax base owing to Council Tax Support reform.”
Huntingdon’s precept will total £855,138, up £63,566 on last year.
Band D households in St Neots face a 1.8 per cent rise to £85.75 a year, £1.52 a week extra, and in St Ives the bills will be £115.58 a year, an extra £3.34, up 2.89 per cent.
