Olympic bronze medallist Joshua Buatsi, with the help of town mayor Councillor Daryl Brown, cut the tape to mark the opening of the new store in Edison Bell Way. Hundreds of shoppers waited outside for the doors to open at 8am, eager to get their hands on prizes which were being given out to mark the occasion. The first 100 people in the queue for the store were given golden envelopes, giving them the chance to win top-of-the-range TVs, sat navs and notebooks, as well as Aldi shopping vouchers. Boxer Joshua was joined by store manager Rob Place and a Huntingdon youngster whos won a competition to have her Christmas-themed poster displayed in-store. Mayor, Cllr Daryl Brown, said: It was a great pleasure to be at the opening of the new Aldi store. It has created lots of jobs and has opened just in time for Christmas which is very good. At the opening Cllr Brown also wished those with golden envelopes good luck. The new store, which has created 30 jobs for people in the local area, has become the fifth supermarket in the town. The discount retailer has opened a year after rival budget chain Lidl opened in December, last year, in Stukeley Road.
